Hydro Jetting vs. Snaking: Which Drain-Cleaning Method Fits the Problem?

Both methods can clear a blockage, but they do different jobs. The right decision depends on where the clog is, what is causing it, and the condition of the pipe.

What drain snaking is best at

A drain snake is commonly used to open a localized clog or pull through a blockage. It can be a practical first step when one fixture is affected and there is no reason to suspect heavy buildup deeper in the line.

What hydro jetting is best at

Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to wash grease, sludge, and buildup from pipe walls. It is often considered when clogs keep returning, a line is grease-heavy, or a more thorough cleaning is needed after the pipe condition is assessed.

When a sewer camera comes first

A camera inspection can help when the blockage is unknown, the same line keeps backing up, roots or pipe damage are suspected, or a customer needs to understand the condition of the line before choosing the next service.
